Queensland Residential Construction Shows Growth and an Increase in Construction Jobs

The Master Builders quarterly survey has shown signs of an industry recovery in the residential construction industry within Queensland. December figures showed an improvement over the previous 12 months of regional building approvals, up 3.8% from the same period the previous year.

This is an excellent result considering nationwide approvals fell by 4.4% over the same period. Paul Bidwell, director of housing policy at Master Builders, says “Looking closely at the regional figures, it is clear that regional Queensland has fared much better than south-east Queensland and is currently driving the emerging resurgence in the housing sector.”

“This positive outlook confirms our view that 2013 will be a good year for Queensland’s building industry, particularly the housing sector.”

An increase in approvals of 93.6% in the Mackay and Whitsunday regions is likely to see an increase in job opportunities in the construction industry in these areas. Central Queensland also showed a huge increase with a 53.2% lift in new home approvals.
